WINTER TIME!!!

I love winter, sure it's cold and dark, but I love wrpping up all cosy in a nice winter coast, hat, scarf and gloves! The air seems so much fresher and the ground looks all lovely ad sparkely when Jack Frost has come out!

Me dressed for winter...

Winter is a great excuse to have lazy duvet days with your partner, friend or just by yourself! I love duvet days, so relaxing. The amount of DVD's and TV series that I watch over winter is crazy! I just watched Breakfast at Tiffanys for the first time :) currently me and my friends are watching every How I Met Your Mother episode in order... bores.

Cosy knitted jumpers are so comfy, I love getting to wear them in winter! Somfy Uggs and a hat to cover your bad haie day, winter is amazing in this respect!!!

Get with the Trend! Or Not!!

I find it funny how style trends come in and out of fashion…

Over the past couple of months the  ‘grunge’ style has been in fashion, things such as printed skulls, checked shirt, dark washed out demin  etc has been appearing in shops everywhere.

I am certainly not the best person at keeping up with the latest trend at all. I tend to walk into a shop and just buy something because I like it, not because it is in fashion. i do admire people who are in the trend though, they aways look so good!!!

However when I was about 13 - 15 years old, I would have dressed mostly in the ‘grunge’ sort of trend. I loved it, but apparently others did not L

Everyone else was so caught up in their own high trend fashion that my outfits were frowned upon, if I were to wear these outfits now, I would fit right in.

Funny how just because something isn’t in fashion there are some people who don’t think you should wear it at all, it shouldn’t be up to them. What you wear should reflect your personality and be unique.

So many girls and boys are bullied for what they do and do not wear, this isn’t fair! It is their choice!!!  I don’t see why it is anyone else’s business at all. I’d rather wear something I feel comfortable in rather than wearing something that makes me feel awkward, just so I can fit in.

My mum always has said never to throw out anything that has once been in fashion because, fashion always repeats itself. So who knows, maybe your own style isn’t in right now, but in five years time, everyone could be parading around in YOUR look, but remember, you had It first!

Fashion Trends...

Things I would LIKE to TRY and do...

I feel like I am stuck in a rut, that my life isn’t really going anywhere, not that it can advance much further at the minute as I am still half way through my course at uni. If you read my last post then you would have noticed how I am starting to worry about what I am going to do with my life. Anyway, despite all this, I am determined to make changes in my life so I enjoy it more, you only live once right?

First thing I plan to do is hit the gym!!!   Yes that’s right, I am going to get fit!!!! I don’t intend on losing too much weight because I am at a healthy weight already but my body is in a desperate need of toning up!!! So anyone who happens to be at Queens University Gym, keep watch you may get a laugh out of me failing miserably in the gym.

Tying in with that I am also considering running the marathon… O.K. I know many of you have heard me say this before but this time I really do mean it!!! Not the WHOLE Marathon, I am definitely not ready for that yet, but I might grab a few friends together and to the relay! Would be a great achievement!!!

¡hola, Bonjour, Salou, γειά σου, Ciao, 你好
Yes, you may have already guessed it, I would like to learn a language!!!  I love the way bilinguals can just freely switch between languages, especially when they are angry and just rant in a foreign language that you don’t understand. I knooooowwww, I will never be that good, but hey I could try, couldn’t I? Don’t know what I should learn though… any ideas?

I am also considering helping out at a care home, haven’t thought enough about it yet though, I’ll get back to you on that one!

SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!

Yeah, I kinda gotta save money… fat chance of that happening L

I wonder if I will actually put any of these into action.... hope I do, would be awesome!!!

The Future is SCARY

Do you ever feel like your at a dead end? That no matter what you imagine yourself doing in your mind you just always feel like you are going no where? Ever get frustrated with it?

I constantly feel like that... I guess its my ages, im 20 years old and soon uni will be over and I will have to enter the big bad world of FULL TIME WORK!!! YIKES!!!

I am really not looking forward to it, it is so so so scary thinking about it, makes me sad haha.

The future scares me...
Every one else seems to have their plans in their head of what they want to do and they seem to be playing that out quite well, yet all I am thinking is that I am going to be a bum/slob my whole life, amounting to nothing.

I was told everyone feels like this at somepoint in their life... is that true???

Growing up sucks, someone hand me the handbook to life please!!!

Superheros!!

What did you want to be when you were younger?

Ask that questions to any six year old boy (and maybe some girls) and many of their answers will be in the form of a superhero!

I love superheroes!!!When I was around 15 I was Obsessed with drawing them and I’ve put a few of my drawings on this page. My favourite has always been Spiderman, I don't know why seeing as I am terrified of spiders (who aren’t?). I just love the way he can swing from the buildings, and maybe that fact that one of my best friends was obsessed with hi may have influenced my thinking a little.

If you haven't seen the new Spiderman movie yet, rent it, watch it and love it!! :)

Seeing as me and my friends are all poor broke students who are currently waiting on their student loans to come in, we are all sitting in tonight for a Marvel Movie Marathon. I bought my boyfriend the Avengers box set for a wee surprise and we are going to be watching all six movies tonight, that are nearly 12 hours of Iron Man 1&2 the Hulk, Thor, Captain America and the Avengers.... Bring It On!!!

Although those six year olds may not get to be superheroes when they are older, many of them may turn out to be everyday heroes, such as doctors, fire fighters and police men. Some of these people put their lives on the line every day and they all put in a tremendous amount of work, yet they never get the credit they deserve! You never know who might turn out to be your superhero one day....

Hello all.....

Sooooooo, I haven't done a blog in a while, mostly because I couldn't think of anything to write and to be honest I was just too lazy to do it. However, I have decided that I need a hobby to get me through Uni, basically something that I can use to procrastinate with when it comes to the mountains of work I have!!! That’s third year for you!!

Anyway, I am beyond excited for this year! I’ve just moved into a new house with my friends and boyfriend. It’s a class we house, I love it :)

Hopefully there will be loads of stories to come, with events such as; 21st Birthdays, Halloween, Arthurs Day etc. coming up in the next two months. Hopefully it will be a good year to remember!!!

The Five Year Engagement!!!

Ok, so everyone knows the basic plot of a ‘Rom Com’ .Everythings is normal at the start, then things tend to gradualy go wrong until we have a very messy situation in the middle and then of course, we have the Romaic version of the; they all live happily ever after ending. Typical. But we LOVE it! It’s true we all love a good Rom Com, they are feel good movies which give us the element of cringe, allowing us to think that there are other people in the word who also have the same goofy mistakes and problems that we do!!!

Five Year Engagement for me was a delight! I loved it! I am a big fan of Jason Segel, I honestly think he is lovely!!! The title kind of gives you a heads up that this is going to be a long movie, it may of just slightly over stayed its welcome but not enough to ruin the movie! After all they have to squeeze five years into one tiny wee movie. The length is also highlighted by the fact that family members keep dying throughout L

Emily Blunt, in my eyes, played her role as Jason Segel's fiancé superbly! Quirky and elegant but just as goofy as the average Joe.
The plot highlights to us how nothing is set in stone. Life can be unpredictable as opportunities arise and different paths are cleared. It also points out to us how you really can find the right person at the wrong time! That person may be the love of your life but you still have you own life to fulfil before you can create a joint one.

The supporting characters in the movie really add to it. They constantly have you laughing and cringing!

Overall I really enjoyed the movie, I found myself laughing, cringing and pleading with characters in my seat. I am certainly no movie expert, hence why I made no attempt to evaluate the directing or anything like that but I do love people to enjoy a good Rom Com.

Friday the 13th

Today is Friday the 13th, a day a lot of people are cautious towards. They deem it unlucky and fear it. It is so widely feared that it has its own terminology; paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Friday the 13th has not scientifically bee proven to be unlucky. However, if we delve into the past we can see some elements that may have sparked this idea. In Jesus' last supper, Judas was the 13th guest to arrive and the one to betray him. The day Friday was also feared by Christians as it was the day Jesus was crucified. Christians would tend to not start journeys or plans on a Friday with the view that it was doomed from the start.

Other aspects also hint towards a fear of Friday the 13th. When Capital Punishment was still around it would be on a Friday when hangings would take place and there were apparently thirteen steps up to the noose. Of course there are numerous other reasons aside from these two but I will leave finding them out to your own devices.

In fact people deem the number 13 unlucky as a whole, I have recently found out that in the catering business, the number 13 is avoided as a table number. People also feel uncomfortable eating at a table which has 13 dinners. This is due to the thought that in a year one of them would be dead. I have never heard of this before but I am not one to dismiss superstition. Seeing as it has never been proven to be wrong, I'm happy to go along with it.

Whether you’re a fan of Friday the 13th or not, remember it is still Friday which means the weekend is here!! If you are still trying to avoid anything disastrous happening, here are some tips to keep your safe....

I ♥ Cities

In the morning the city
Spreads its wings
Making a song
In stone that sings.

In the evening the city
Goes to bed
Hanging lights
About its head.
-Langston Hughes

It's so easy to let you mind get lost in a city. As you wonder through the streets, taking in every sight, smell, noise and feeling... it would be easy to think you were immersed inside your own 4D movie!

Have you ever had that feeling? Where you are just walking along the street with your IPod in, minding your own business, and the suddenly, an amazing song comes on and you suddenly feel like you are the lead role in a movie? That’s the feeling I get every time I'm walking through one of my favourite cities.

From the way I'm talking here you would think that I have travelled half the world!!! Unfortunately that is not so, although one day I would love to!!! Who wouldn’t???

However, I do have some weird fascination with cities, as you may be able to tell by the background on my blog. I have a full list of places I would love to visit! Not all of them are cities, but the places I am most interested in are. Although I really, really hate to admit it, I am a history nerd deep deep deep down (waaaaaay down) and cities are just full of history. Each buildingholds some form of significance, the beautiful creations that most of them all are beyond comparison to the modern blocks that we build today.

The walls of each building hold so many untold stories, if walls could talk, I'd happily sit and listen to them all day long.
So far I have been to London, Dublin, Belfast and Barcelona... I'm basically interestedin any city, so if I get the chance to go there I will!!!! Although I have visited these cities and live in one of them (Belfast) I haven’t really explored them enough, so I think a revisit is in order!!!

Hopefully I will be able to visit more and more cities as I get older, I’d love to have that privilege and share these experiences with you too.

“When you look at a city, it’s like reading the hopes, aspirations and pride of everyone who built it.”
Hugh Newell Jacobsen

The Girl who Wore a Dress and became a Princess

Blurry images whizzing past me as I twirl round and round the lobby, curtsying and posing in the mirrors that walled the room. I kept being flourished with comments; ‘you look so pretty, just like a princess.’ I was just like a princess, in my eyes, at five years old, being a flower girl was as good as being a princess. My white satin dress and matching shoes made me feel special as I danced around the room.

That five year old princess seems to have been locked way in the past now. As I’ve grown up, I strayed into a ‘tomboyish’ stage in my life. Dresses were a thing of the past….that is until my first formal approached. At fifteen years old the thought of getting into a dress, something way out of my comfort zone was daunting; terrifying!!! However, it was the best night of my life, my light pink, full length dress, near resembling a wedding dress, again made me feel like a princess. I danced the night away with my friends, the dress giving me the confidence.

Two years later, just turned eighteen and with my eyes set on my true love, my second formal arrived. The thought of trying to impress a boy made the night even more nerve wrecking. Findig the perfect dress was a must, something completely different to my last one and to what everyone else was wearing, something that was me. With tan, Hair and makeup done, as I put on the dress, judging myself in the mirror, I wasn’t as confident as that five year old princess flower girl any more. The moment happened later ,when my prince held out his hand to me, pulled me close to him and shyly said ‘you look beautiful tonight’; then I felt like a princess again as the butterflies soared around me.

I always think of the next time when I will wear a dress like that, one that will make me feel like a princess.

Whether it be at another formal or on my wedding day, wearing a lovely dress can make any girl feel like a princess for the night.

Nana's 70th

To be seventy years young is sometimes far more cheerful and hopeful than to be forty years old.
Oliver Wendell Holmes

My Nana turns 70 years old today. What a mile stone. Looking at her you would never guess she was 70 at all, she is still a wee stunner.

We had a birthday party for her at my aunt Lyns house. It was brillaint, we had the whole family there. We even managed to get in contact with our Nana's sisters who live in Canada and Australia. The Birthday girl was over the moon.

Like I said, she certainly does not look seventy, nor does she act like it. She still loves going to her wee club and getting on the stage to sing, she could also out dance any young clubber any day.

Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Leroy "Satchel" Paige

I love having the whole family together it give off such a feel good mood.

There was a massive spread of food that everyone had joined in to make and it was yummy. I ate loads!!!! Seriously I gained about to stone, thank goodness I was wearing leggins otherwise I would have burst through my buttons.

The cake was lovely. We knew she would be expecting a nice cake so uncle Michael took charge of that. However, he thought that it was too nice of a cake to put candels on, so we decided to play a little joke. Michael brougt out a plain cake with a candel on it for my Nana, nothing fancy at all, safe to say she had to force her wee smile a little. However, she was delighted when the real cake came out and it was gorgeous.

The grand kids worked together on a present for our Nana, she wanted a new phone, with specific requirements It HAD to be a 'flippy' one, it HAD to have a camera and it HAD to have big buttons so that she could see the numbers she was pressing, My cousins found her the perfect one, not only did it meet all the requirements but it was lepord print and also acted as a mirror. However when she first saw it in the box she did think it was perfume... silly Nana.

We also decided to make her a scrapbook. It had pictires from her childhood, her kids childhood, her grandkids child hood and right up to the present. A poem of hers was also included. She loved it.

Scared to Check My Bank Balance

'Money, Money, Money, must be funny, in a rich man's world'

Seriously, the aspect of money is bound to be funny for a rich guy, he just walks up to an atm, checks his a billion figure bank balance, then has a wee chuckle to himself at the poor student beside him who is driven to an emotional breakdown from her own pathetic balance! Seriously I am that student, it’s horrible.

I hate checking my bank balance; I think it is an actual fear! Every time I got to do it I get nervous, my heart beats faster and I have a wee mini panic attack inside. It’s horrible!

Students have it the worse, trying to live our lives before we have to settle down into the working world, get married and have kids. We don't want to be sitting at thirty years old, in a well-paid job thinking to ourselves about all the stuff we could have been doing but just don't have any time for now.  Money only stretches so far. I know we all get loans but then all we have on our minds is the aspect of being in thousands and thousands of pounds worth of debt.

My bank offered to send me a text each time my bank balance went below £100. The smart, money cautious person would have said yes. Me? Well no way did I want that!!! I would freak out once the message came through and then run to the bank machine just to make sure the text message wasn’t lying!

Why can't we all just be millionaires???

Lunch with the Girls

I recently went out for a wee girly lunch for my friend Emma’s birthday. It was great, just chilling with the girls. As I live in a house of mainly boys, and as much as I love them all, it was great to just have a few hours of girly time J

We went to the lunch buffet at China China and it was amazing! I would highly recommend it to anyone, great value for your money as well! Even though we are all girls we had are plates fairly stacked each time we went up, big fat pies we all were! The ice cream machine baffled us all. Poor Patsy had this long white thing hanging in front of her!

The conversation was full of gossip as you’d expect, something which guys would perhaps refer to as a gloriously indiscreet bitch-fest, but no we are nice girls, who feel the need to highlight each other of other people’s business. From music, to boyfriends, teachers and old friends the conversation was hilarious.

                                                                 Emma and Patricia

When you think of a girly day out and a guy day out, they are somewhat very different. Guys would not be able to comprehend how sitting down for a nice lunch and then going for a wee drink would be exciting and fun. They would see a guy’s day as playing pool, grabbing a burger, drinking beer and betting pints on games.

I love having wee girly catch ups, and I am defiantly in need of them more often!

MTV Titanic Sounds!!!

Friday the 13th... it's meant to be unlucky. Naaaaaaaah, not when you’re about to see Pixie Lott and Olly Murs, live on stage on the same night!

MTV has returned to Belfast to host a night of live music for the 100th year celebrations of the infamous Titanic. With artists like Sean Paul, Katy B, Rizzle Kicks, Pixie Lott and Olly Murs, the 16000 tickets sold out in a flash!!

Any spare time before and in-between the acts were danced away by a DJ, which kept the crowd lively and warm!

Pixie Lott was the first act to perform. I myself, along with many others, thought she should have appeared later on in the concert but still, what away to open the show!.

With her famous legs on full show she certainly made the majority of the boys (and a good few of the girls) a little over excited! She was excellent live!

Rizzle Kicks stormed the stage. These guys really impressed me. They were so good live and ran about like a couple of five year olds on a truck load of sugar!
They rapped out ‘Mama Do the Hump’, ‘When I was Youngster’, and finishing with ‘Down with the Trumpet’ was awesome!!!!! They were super cute too J The wee dude they had on the trumpet was also a great wee entertainer.

Sean Paul claimed the stage next. I’m not generally a fan of his so I honestly didn’t pay a great deal of attention to him. My cousin, however, is a fan and thought that he was great. Suppose I would too, but all I heard coming out of that mic was ‘blah blah blah’ at the speed of light! He also had a weird friend with a strange voice constantly asking us ‘Do you love Sean Paul?! Ah, No!!!

Katy B, what an underdog! From what I heard not many people were expecting much from her but that didn’t stop her OWNING that stage though!! Pitch perfect, energetic and a wee stunner, BRILLIANT!! I loved her! The wee ballad she did mid-way through was unbelievable, I wish I could remember the name of it L We were also treated to a worldwide exclusive of her 2012 Olympic song! It was epic!!

Girls screaming, girls crying, girls fainting, that could only mean one thing......Olly Murs had graced the stage. The hype and reaction to him was phenomenal!!! Seriously, his name was being chanted by the crowd long before he came on!! O what a joy he was. The wee cheeky chappy was out in his granda style, singing his heart out. Who ever thought wee Olly from the X Factor would be so famous, eh? Everyone loved him, his dancing was too funny and genius at the same time. At one point he got the whole crowd singing… ‘If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands’ Brilliant!! He was a great way to close the show, with Rizzle Kicks joining him for their number one collaboration ‘My heart Skips a Beat’.

Overall, I had an amazing time! It was an amazing concert!! I couldn't decide who I wanted more, Pixie or Olly? Hmmmm threesome :)
It will be played across all MTV music stations from the start of May onwards. So if you were there, watch it as you may be on TV!!!!!

Leave Students Alone

There are normally two very different views of Students. Some people like to think they are reckless, careless individuals who eat, sleep, drink and occasionally roll into uni when they HAVE to. They think they spend all night, every night, downing drinks, taking shots, clubbing and doing God knows what else.

The other view is that uni students should be mature adults studying 24/7 with a stack of books so high they can’t see over it.

In all fairness, these two types of student do exist. However, everyone seems to forget about us in the middle, the ones that study hard but also party when they can, they one who know the meaning of the word balance!

It’s not surprising that people only view students as either swots or drunks seeing ass these are the only two groups who ever get any attention. Just the other day there was a story in the newspaper of 200 drunken Manchester Students trashing a luxury yacht, drinking heavily, smashing bottles, running around naked and horrifying the other 1000 adults and children on board. This is not a great example of most students; also there is a great chance that this story was exaggerated for the media. Seems that exaggeration and misleading pictures are always used to portray students in a bad light.

On the night of our results in 2010, we were all at Box and our head boy was sitting outside  eating food with a friend, someone took a picture of this and it was on the front page of a newspaper the next day, claiming they were ‘blocked’. Funny when they were perfectly fine…I’m sure there were plenty of people in the club who were drunk but it is unfair that everyone is made out to be like this.

Not all students spend their lives getting drunk and creating chaos, there are even rumours of the government chainging the drinking age to 21 in my eyes that will not work. The level of underage drinkers will just soar sky high and we will have more people wanting to rebel against the system. Most studentsare well behaved and mature, people just like to create something out of nothing in aid of gossip.

Not all students are mental, very few of them are, theres no need to judge them. Just leave them alone...

Return of Steps was Certainly No Tragedy

Any real 90's kid will remember the legendry band that is STEPS!! With Vibrant colours, cheesy lyrics and catchy tunes they were loved by all. My good friend Emma recently went to their reunion tour conert so it felt right for her to me my guest blogger and do a wee review, enjoy..

After a long absence from the UK music scene, hit 90s pop band Steps did not fail to impress on the opening night of their reunion tour in Belfast. Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans (whose six-pack wowed the audience) and Lisa Scott-Lee finally put their differences aside, delighting the sell-out crowd at the Odyssey Arena.

The night started with a performance of ‘Here and Now/You’ll Be Sorry,’ with the five band members appearing on stage inside glass cases. After welcoming fans old and young, including ‘the new generation’ described by Faye, the crowd enthusiastically grabbed the chance to join in with some of the group’s most famous dance routines. Needless to say, the noise level soared as the whole arena danced along to hits such as ‘Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart’ and the legendary ‘5, 6, 7, 8.’

In an exciting ‘solo section,’ each member of the band performed a song of their choice, with H’s energetic performance of ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ really getting the crowd going. Claire proved once again why she was the lead singer during the band’s heyday, with a stunning performance of ‘I Surrender.’

The most emotional moment of the night came during the group’s performance of ‘When I Said Goodbye.’ Claire, who alongside H was widely blamed for the band’s split, failed to hold back tears as the reality of performing live with Steps once again seemed to hit her.

During a fun-filled medley which included songs such as Stomp and ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen,’ the dazzling costumes took centre stage. The colours were bright and vibrant, adding to the party atmosphere. With countless costume changes taking place throughout the show, the crowd were kept well entertained during breaks by muscular male dancers.

As the show drew to a close, the highly-anticipated hit ‘Tragedy’ was performed. As ‘Tragedy’ was the song that gave Steps their big break, it was only right that it was kept as the final song. It was amazing to see an entire arena join together to perform the iconic dance moves made famous in the 1998 music video.

All the critics who mocked Steps and the idea of a reunion tour must surely now be eating their words. With a number one album and TV series under their belt since the long-awaited reunion, Steps have certainly proved the doubters wrong. I can safely say that the Belfast show was one of the most exciting and enjoyable LIVE concerts I have been to, and I can guarantee that the thousands of men, women and children who were also there would agree!
