Blurry images whizzing past me as I twirl round and round
the lobby, curtsying and posing in the mirrors that walled the room. I kept
being flourished with comments; ‘you look so pretty, just like a princess.’ I was
just like a princess, in my eyes, at five years old, being a flower girl was as
good as being a princess. My white satin dress and matching shoes made me feel
special as I danced around the room.
That five year old princess seems to have been locked way in
the past now. As I’ve grown up, I strayed into a ‘tomboyish’ stage in my life.
Dresses were a thing of the past….that is until my first formal approached. At
fifteen years old the thought of getting into a dress, something way out of my
comfort zone was daunting; terrifying!!! However, it was the best night of my
life, my light pink, full length dress, near resembling a wedding dress, again
made me feel like a princess. I danced the night away with my friends, the
dress giving me the confidence.
Two years later, just turned eighteen and with my eyes set on
my true love, my second formal arrived. The thought of trying to impress a boy
made the night even more nerve wrecking. Findig the perfect dress was a must,
something completely different to my last one and to what everyone else was
wearing, something that was me. With tan, Hair and makeup done, as I put on the
dress, judging myself in the mirror, I wasn’t as confident as that five year
old princess flower girl any more. The moment happened later ,when my prince
held out his hand to me, pulled me close to him and shyly said ‘you look
beautiful tonight’; then I felt like a princess again as the butterflies soared
around me.
I always think of the next time when I will wear a dress
like that, one that will make me feel like a princess.
Whether it be at another
formal or on my wedding day, wearing a lovely dress can make any girl feel like
a princess for the night.
