Drunk at 11...

Whilst flicking through the news something bizarre got my eye. It appeared to be a mother claiming that she and her eleven year old son always get drunk together!! I could not believe my ears when I heard this. He is only eleven! How on earth could the woman find that acceptable?!

The mother and son were seen staggering about drunk at 8pm and had allegedly been drinking since 9am...shocking! The kid was seen swigging from a bottle of vodka. He staggered about the place, eventually slumping to the ground and being rushed to hospital. I
honestly cannot believe this!

The mother was of course taken to court but surprisingly walked away completely free! She is described by neighbours as a drunk, and blamed letting her son drink on her past 'wretched life'. In my opinion I do not deem this as an appropriate excuse, perhaps it could be seen as a form of explanation for her being a 'drunk' but not for letting eleven year old get into this state.

I myself am not a mother, nor am I anywhere near becoming one so therefore I am in no position to blatantly say this person is in the wrong...however I do think she needs to step back and realise that she is putting her son's health at a serious risk.

There is age limits set on alcohol for a reason! We are constantly hearing about kids underage drinking on the streets, but in my eyes, the issue becomes a million times more problematic when it comes to the fact that underage kids are able to drink under adult supervision.

These days we see more and more kids at a declining age, falling into troublesome behaviour. Whether it be; underage drinking, smoking, fighting, knife crime, gun crime, gangs or rioting, the behaviour of them is deteriorating. I think it's time we sort this out. Once people see kids like this the majority of the time they think to themselves the kids are low lives, doomed to failure.

Perhaps it is time for society to stop pointing the finger and condemning these kids, and actually try to help them instead?
